For all the hype and taking ten years to get to the screen, this better deliver. It looks to me like I am watching someone play a video game. But then again Giovani Ribissi slurring his lines doesnt help.

SAW VI
Starring:
Tobin Bell, Shawnee Smith, Costas Mandylor, Peter Outerbridge
Director: Kevin Greutert
Genre: Horror,Thriller
Rated: R

SAW VI as the name implies is the sixth in this once inventive horror franchise. With Jigsaw now dead, Hoffman (Costas Mandylor) takes over the Jigsaw role to fulfill the final wishes left in the will of the original Jigsaw (Tobin Bell)
The whole point of the Jigsaw killings was that he took people that were living in a way that caused pain to other people and put them in a situation where if they were willing to sacrifice something (usually a piece of their anatomy) they would be able to survive. They would either sacrifice and win their game and survive with a newfound appreciation of life or fail miserably suffer, and die a painful death due to one of Jigsaw Puzzles. Apparently now these rules don’t apply and Jigsaw has put William (Perter Outerbridge) the man who decided whether to cover his health insurance claim for his cancer treatment into the final game. William must play four games each unlocking a small explosive locked onto his arms and legs. For each game he completes he gets a key until he is finally free. What is different about Williams’s game is that his games typically involve picking which of his coworkers gets to live or die. Apparently Jigsaw decided not to let them play for their own life they are just there to die, which goes completely against the whole point of what he was doing. While this is going on the feds are trying to figure out who is carrying out Jigsaws final wishes, not realizing it is Hoffman who is right under their nose.
Make no mistake this installment of SAW is awful and I am(was) a fan of the franchise, what was once a movie you could count on for some ingenuity in the killing department and a twist ending has become boring and repetitive not even following its own rules it has set up. The acting is terrible and Costas Mandylor has proven to be so completely inept and awful that he should be ashamed of himself for taking a paycheck to destroy this franchise. The best part about his role is that when he is on the screen you know it’s a good time for a bathroom break.
Tobin Bell and Shawnee Smith return in their roles as Jigsaw and Amanda, since they are both dead they are now just interactive visions that just add another layer of stupidity and confusion to the film.
SAW IV is so bad you feel like you are in one of Jigsaws games, if you can suffer through this abomination you will have a newfound appreciate for life.

Law Abiding Citizen
Starring:
Gerard Butler, Jamie Foxx, Colm Meaney, Bruce McGill
Director: F. Gary Gray
Genre: Drama,Thriller
Rated: R

A Man’s family is killed in front of him, when a plea bargain sets one of the killers free he takes matters into his own hands to exact revenge on both the killer and the D.A’s office that set him free.
Gerard Butler Stars as Clyde a C.I.A “Brain” who is attacked with his family in the house, after being overpowered he witnesses the two intruders murder his wife and daughter in front of him. Ten years after the murders he is told by Assistant D.A Nick Rice (Jamie Foxx) that rather than taking the case to trial a plea bargain has been made. Nick tells Clyde that “some justice is better than no justice” Although the real reason is Nick doesn’t want to jeopardize his conviction rate. After the Plea Clyde witnesses the murderer shaking Nick’s hand which sets off Clyde to enact a plan to bring down the system that set the killer free.
The first eighty percent of the movie is pretty good it’s interesting to see Clyde get his revenge and put his plan into place. Clyde is very similar to Jigsaw from the saw movies with his killings trying to teach a lesson to Nick. Clyde’s plan involves some cleverness and ingenuity but at the same time he isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty ala a porterhouse bone shanking to the neck of an inmate. Clyde is a great Anti-Hero, we learn that he was a C.I.A “Brain” whose job it was to figure out how to kill people that were too protected to be killed traditionally; “If Clyde wants you dead then you’re dead” the C.I.A agent says and for the first 80% of the movie he was right. Clyde has a plan and is always a step ahead of everyone else. With that much of the movie invested in Clyde you begin to root for him nobody in the D.A’s office is likeable and Clyde was wronged, you buy into Clyde’s revenge and his ability to outthink everyone.
The ending of the movie is complete crap and ruins the first 80%, the way that Nick figures everything out feels cheap and you believe Clyde would have known this; it goes completely against everything that was being built up. There were a million endings they could have gone with and from a movie claiming something biblical would happen you expect an ending that would deliver more. If I left before the last half hour I would gladly recommend this unfortunately I stayed.
I should have realized that this movie would be crap Jamie Foxx should change his stage name to “The Trash Man” it seems like he is content to consistently deliver Garbage every chance he gets. He is a male version of Jennifer Lopez and there career parallels are eerily similar, both worked on In Living Color both think they can sing, both think they are a lot better than they really are, And both make Dogshit Movies
Paranormal Activity
Starring:
Micah Sloat and Katie Featherston
Director: Oren Peli
Genre: Horror
Rated: R

A couple in San Diego are experiencing weird noises and odd things going on in the night, They get a Video Recorder and set it up to record the phenomena.
Let me start off by saying I bought into the hype of the Blair Witch Project only to feel disappointed and cheated and wondering why people though any of it was scary. Paranormal Activity is another film in a similar vain that is entirely shot by primary characters minus the shakiness and constant screaming. I didn’t want to buy into the hype and be disappointed but when a movie makes you fill out a request just to get it to play locally I was intrigued. I had learned my lesson from The Blair Witch however and approached this with high hopes but lesser expectations.
The film starts off introducing us to Micah and Kate and what is going on, you see candid moments that share a glimpse into there relationship and soon you feel like your watching some friends home video. Utilizing two unknown actors for this film really brings the audience in and the way Micah and Kate act towards each other is sometimes funny but mostly real and believable. After an introductory period they meet with a physic who explains what is happening and how the house isn’t haunted but a demon is haunting Kate which was a great explanation for why they don’t leave this freaky house. Through time lapse and night vision we see the haunting progress from sounds to more shocking phenomenon.
Paranormal Activity is the type of movie you want to recommend to people but you cant really say why without giving too much away. Let me just say I have seen a million “Scary Movies” with the actual Scares being few and far between. This movie will freak you out then scare you and then scare you some more. I have never seen so many people in an audience jump as many times as I did seeing this. The Scares come so easily because they seem so plausible within the context of the story and you feel like it could happen to you. Whether you believe in Demons, the Paranormal or not the fear of the unknown resides in every one and nobody knows what is going on around them when they are sleeping.
This is definitely the freakiest movie I have ever seen and probably the scariest. You know its good when the audience leaves the theater not knowing if they just watched a documentary or a movie and are talking about how they are going to have nightmares. One of the best movies I have seen all year and possibly the scariest movie ever made.
Zombieland
Starring:
Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin
Director: Ruben Fleischer
Genre: Romantic Comedy, Horror
Rated: R

In a Zombie Infested future 2 men team up to head back to there respective home towns and kill zombies along the way.
Columbus(Jesse Eisenberg) is a loner who lives by his own rules of survival he meets up with Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) to travel together for part of his trip back to his hometown of Columbus Ohio to reunite with his parents, While on there way they encounter two sisters Witchita (Emma Stone) and Little Rock played by Abigail Breslin.
The main thing Zombieland has going for it is that it has it’s own unique style with Columbus narrating the film and discussing his rules for survival while onscreen graphics are displayed on the screen for mostly comedic effect. In honor of Columbus’ rules I wanted to share a few of my own for making a good movie particularly in the horror genre. #1 is Violence and Gore but not just run of the mill violence or gore in horror creativity counts and Zoimbieland has plenty of that including some great use of Weaponry, When Tallahassee enters a grocery store in search of a twinkie and uses a banjo to get the attention of a zombie and then proceeds to bludgeon him to death with said Banjo the scene delivers. #2 is Humor, this is after all a comedy horror and there are definitely a lot of laughs to be had here. I personally cant stand when a horror film is intended to be serious but they throw out stupid puns Ala any nightmare on elm street after the first one; however Zombieland doesn’t go for the easy pun or lame joke it uses situational humor typically at a zombies expense to get the laugh. #3 is characters while I love a nice random death scene its great to have a connection to the characters and we are given just enough info and back story to care for all four of the principal characters. #4 is nudity and while Zombieland doesn’t come through on this aspect it succeeds everywhere else so I can overlook this. #5 is not to overstay your welcome and with a scant 82 minutes of screen time Zombieland gets in and gets out.
Zombieland delivers more than enough Violence, Gore, and Humor to fill its short screen time making it a definite must see. It is easily the best horror comedy since Shaun of the Dead
