San Francisco, CA, September 9, 2013–Seed&Spark, the world’s first crowdfunding and digital distribution platform made just for independent film, is proud to launch their first guest-curated Cinema Conversation with “Más American,” a group of multi-cultural films selected by blogger/programmer Christine Davila.
After recently launching “Conversations” – a group of curated film collections that organize Seed&Spark Cinema movies across different genres by theme – Seed&Spark invites Davila and other curators to program films from the area of their expertise, to provide a trusted voice that nudges audiences toward films they might not necessarily find or try on their own.
“Más American is an inclusive conversation starter championing underrepresented modern multi-culti narratives that defy outdated roles or norms, truly capturing the American acculturated and independent sense of self,” says Davila. Making up the Más American program are: THE CRUMBLES by Akira Boch, which premiered at the San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival where it won the Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature; award-winning drama short GABI by Zoé Salicrup Junco, which had its US premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival; and postmodern relationship western THE NEVER DAUNTED by Edgar Muñiz.
“Much like the real-life conversation around the topics themselves, these Cinema Conversations will continue to evolve,” says Seed&Spark Founder and CEO, Emily Best. “The films kicking-off ‘Más American’ are the beginning of what we hope becomes an expanded dialogue on multi-cultural identity through the art of film, and we will continue to build upon the program as more and more films are created which express these ideas.”
Davila, a long-time Programming Associate for the Sundance Film Festival and keeper of the blog ChicanaFromChicago.com, has recently been tapped as Director of Ambulante Film Festival – California.
Films in the Seed&Spark Cinema are available for unlimited 3-day streaming rentals for $2.99 for features, $0.99 for shorts, or by redeeming “Sparks.” 80% of sales go directly to the filmmaker, who keeps 100% of their rights to their work. About the films in Más American:
THE CRUMBLES (Akira Boch, 73 min). An indie rock slice-of-life tragicomedy about Darla and Elisa, two young women struggling to catapult their talented but directionless garage band to stardom.
GABI (Zoé Salicrup Junco, 20 min). Gabi Padilla thrives in a life full of pleasure and independence. But after her mother’s unexpected death, she is forced to return to her mother’s rural hometown – a place where Gabi’s sensual flair is not welcome.
THE NEVER DAUNTED (Edgar Muñiz, 94 min). Unable to cope with his infertility and the monotony of a dead-end job, Murray becomes withdrawn from his relationship and grows obsessed with a strange Western that comes on television late at night – which only he can see.
Seed&Spark is building a truly independent filmmaking community where filmmakers and audiences come together for crowdfunding, production, and streaming distribution. Every time an audience member supports the making of a moving picture project (funding, following, sharing) they earn “Sparks” which can be redeemed to watch movies on the streaming platform.
