Horrible bosses

Starring: Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, Jason Sudeikis, Kevin Spacey, Collin Farrell and Jennifer Aniston

Rated:R

Director: Seth Gordon

Three best friends all with a boss who is holding them back, conspire to kill them off.

Horrible Bosses” has a great cast and is laugh out loud funny. Seth Gordon (director of the undeniably awesome documentary “The King of Kong“) brings together a cast that plays to not only their strengths but against type as well. This is a film that would be nothing without it’s villains, you really have to believe that these bosses are awful and not only deserve to be knocked off but that they are so evil that they could motivate the average laymen to enter into a pact to carry it out. Spacey as the evil and conniving Dave Harken is an amped up version of his seminal bastard of a boss  “Buddy Ackerman” from 1994′s “Swimming with Sharks”. Both Farrell and Aniston play against type and exceed expectations. Farrell as the greasy coked out, balding Bobby Pellitt plays the douchiest character to hit the big screen since the real life Billy Mitchell caught my eye in “King of Kong” He eats up the screen every chance he gets, the epic combover and kung-fu obsession are hilarious. Anniston who has been able to sustain a career essentially playing the exact same character in every movie, almost earns an apology from me as the sexed up, foul mouth dentist “Julia Harris” gone are the Rachel Green mannerisms and in return, I didn’t hate her in this role.

To counteract the three bosses you have to have a core group of guys that have a natural chemistry and are flawed enough to constantly screw things up in spite of themselves. Enter Bateman, Sudeikis and Day, All three are spot on with Day getting the slight nod in the laughs department. You believe that these guys are long time friends and they are genuinely funny together.

In a year that has been in a comedic draught, Horrible Bosses is the funniest movie of the year so far.
