BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. – The Rodeo Drive Committee and the City of Beverly Hills have announced that they will induct legendary editor and fashion icon Diana Vreeland into the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style® on September 10, 2012 in Beverly Hills on the Via Rodeo at Two Rodeo Drive.   The event will take place on the heels of the much anticipated release of the Samuel Goldwyn Films and EPIX film DIANA VREELAND: THE EYE HAS TO TRAVEL.


Celebrated for her impact on fashion from the 1930s to the 1980’s, Vreeland will be the nineteenth recipient of the award (posthumous) and will receive a bronze plaque featuring her signature and a famous quote permanently embedded into the sidewalk of the famous street. The on-going award, inaugurated in 2003, honors style legends for their contributions to the worlds of fashion and entertainment.


During her fifty-year reign as the “Empress of Fashion,” Vreeland launched Twiggy, advised Jackie O and coined some of fashion’s most eloquent proverbs such as “the bikini is the biggest thing since the atom bomb.” She was the fashion editor of Harper’s Bazaar where she worked for 25 years before becoming editor-in-chief of Vogue followed by a remarkable stint at the Met’s Costume Institute in New York where she helped popularize its historical collections.


“The City of Beverly Hills is proud to honor Diana Vreeland with the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style® award,” says Beverly Hills Mayor William W. Brien.  “Diana Vreeland was one of the most influential women of the 20th Century who changed the face of fashion as we know it.”

“Through her trained and diligent eye, she opened the door of our minds and gave us the freedom to imagine,” says Rodeo Drive Walk of Style® Selection Committee Chairman Wanda McDaniel. “Her images and accomplishments are as fresh and relevant now as they were then, and her spirit is just as vibrant and relevant today.”


A plaque honoring Vreeland on Rodeo Drive’s sidewalk will be unveiled by her son Tim Vreeland and Lisa Immordino Vreeland, producer and director of the acclaimed film DIANA VREELAND: THE EYE HAS TO TRAVEL.  The film will be released by Samuel Goldwyn Films and EPIX on September 21, 2012 and is an intimate portrait and a vibrant celebration of an enduring icon whose influence impacted the worlds of fashion, beauty, art, publishing and culture forever. 


Diana Vreeland will be the nineteenth recipient inducted into the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style®, following previous honorees Missoni, Iman, Fred Hayman, Princess Grace (Kelly) of Monaco, Cartier, Valentino Garavani, Manolo Blahnik, James Galanos, Gianni and Donatella Versace, Salvatore Ferragamo, Edith Head, James Acheson, Milena Canonero, Herb Ritts, Mario Testino and Tom Ford.   Giorgio Armani was the first recipient in 2003.  Honorees are selected by an independent committee comprised of media, celebrities, past honorees and academics in the worlds of fashion and entertainment.


Created by the late sculptor Robert Graham and standing 14-feet tall at the intersection of Rodeo Drive and Dayton Way in front of Two Rodeo, “Torso” serves as the symbol for the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style®.  Two Rodeo Drive is situated in the heart of Beverly Hills’ world-renowned shopping district and offers a diverse selection of 26 luxury boutiques and restaurants.
