The Table
Starring: Marc Scott Zicree, Jim Troesch, Armin Shimerman, William Balch
Directed by: Ana Barredo
A year in the life of the founder of “The Table” Marc Scott Zicree, showcasing the weekly meetings while following how the year plays out for members.
For most people that have dreams of stardom many will make the trek to Los Angeles and few will find any form of success. The grim reality is Los Angeles is a town that will eat you alive, a town that doesn’t care about your dreams or ambitions and without a lot of luck and some form of connections; the odds are monumentally stacked against you.
This is precisely the reason that Marc Scott Zicree (a screenwriter who is teaching while trying to launch his “Magic Time” books) decided to found “The Table” he created a place for those who have dreams but lack the connections to meet other like minded individual. Together they pool their talents to help each other out. If you’re an actor for the cost of a Martini you can get a headshot, if you’re a screenwriter you can have other strongly credentialed screenwriters review your script and give you pointers. There are no initiation fees, no amount of meeting you need to go to, basically no rules. Show up to Paty’s in Toluca Lake on a Thursday night and you’re in, it’s that simple.
The Table is a refreshing look at a group of people who give the finger to the typical backstabbing Hollywood stereo type, putting their Ego’s aside and genuinely being decent people in an industry that could use it. It’s a film that inspires and brings hope to anyone looking for help while trying to catch a break.
Grade – 86
