With a debt looming over his wife’s head, handy man Arkin must break into the house he is working on during the day and steal a jewel to pay off the debt. What Arkin doesn’t know is that the Collector is at the house and has set up a sadistic labyrinth of booby traps.
The Collector is Project Greenlight veteran Marcus Dunstans first foray into the world of directing. Having written two of the movies in the Feast Series as well as two of the movies in the Saw series it is safe to say that Marcus’ taste in horror is on the tension filled yet graphically violent side, The Collector is no different. From the moment Arkin breaks into the house and discovers he is not alone we are witness to sadistic trap after sadistic trap from a nail sticking out of a phone to beartraps and acid on the floor this house of horrors has it all; Including the kidnapped owners of the home in the basement. Arkin goes from trying to steal from the family to trying to save the family while not being discovered himself.

The Collector is short on plot and long on the gore but at a brisk 88 minutes it’s a definite guilty pleasure. You don’t know who The Collector is nor why he is doing what he does and in all honesty you don’t even care. The fun is the inventive ways he has come up with to get rid of the people that are not worth Collecting. If you have seen the saw movies and are a fan you will like The Collector, it offers a variation on the saw formula and works just as good as any of the movies in that series.
