X-Men Origins Wolverine is a prequel to the original X-Men movie.  It starts out with a young Logan who mistakenly kills his real father and goes on the run with his older brother Victor Creed. After an opening credit sequence that flashes through Logan/Wolvrine(Hugh Jackman)  and Victor’s/SabreTooth (Liev Scheiber) involvement in various wars including the Civil War and World War II.  We see more of Victors true charater  in Vietnam, While there going through a village  Victor is confronted by a soldier as he is about to rape a Vietnamese girl, Logan comes to his aid and they are put before a firing squad. After both surviving the firing squad they become part of an elite team of mutants headed up by Will Stryker(Danny Huston). There goal is to hunt down pieces of Adymantium, Logan who does not believe in the tactics used to acquire it, quits the team.  Years later Logan, who is leading a quiet life with his girlfriend Kayla Silverfox(Lynn Collins) in the Canadian Rockies is visited by Stryker who tells him that his old team is being hunted down, Logan is not at all interested until his girlfriend is killed by his brother. His quest for revenge get’s him to become involved in Strykers “Weaopon X” program infusing his skeleton with Adymantium thus making him virtually indestructible.  When Logan escapes the Weapon X lab, Stryker wants him hunted down to harvest his DNA.  Wolverine must find out what the Weapon X program is and where it is located so he can stop both Stryker and Sabretooth.

The Film has had much controversy over the recent weeks due to an unfinished cut being leaked on the internet. While that version didn’t have all of the effects complete it allowed for early criticism of the film and talk of a new ending.  The new ending never came but the effects were finished. The problem is even though they are finished they are some of the worst ever seen in a big budget studio film, that is one of the hugest flaws with Origins, The CGI is so poor that it is often distracting. The other issue that some fans will have is the liberty’s they have taken with the relationship between Wolverine and Sabretooth . My biggest issue however was how they didn’t utilize the entire cast to its full potential, much more screen time should have been devoted to fan favorite Gambit(Taylor Kitsch) hopefully he will be utilized in future X-Men Films, They also missed a great opportunity to utilize the talents of Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson/Deadpool, Changing the history of this character and the potential he could have brought as the wisecracking mercenary, The way they involved him in this film was infuriating and includes a very cheap ending.  Hugh Jackman delivers a stellar performance as Wolverine, however most everything he brings to the table is wasted due to a weak story and poor effects.  The film feels like it was rushed to the theatre, it would have been nice if just a little more time was invested in it.  The issues are not going to hurt it at the box office but it will hurt the franchise in the long run if they continue to cut corners on future X-men installments.
