 The producers of female-driven grindhouse film SHEILA SCORNED are partnering with The Angel City Derby Girls for their double-header roller derby match on Saturday, March 22, 2014. SHEILA SCORNED, which began its Seed&Spark crowdfunding campaign two weeks ago, will be at the games to raise awareness about the challenges women face in media today, and promote the robust grassroots campaign it’s been building since the beginning of the year. It will be an ongoing collaboration and celebration between two groups of women who are taking action to create space for themselves in their respective communities.The ANGEL CITY DERBY GIRLS is ’s premiere flat track roller derby league. Now in its 9th season, ACDG embraces the kitsch of old-style roller derby while pushing forward the modern incarnation of the sport. With 4 competitive teams and 6 total levels of skaters, ACDG is an entirely volunteer-run, skater-owned and operated organization, and is one of the most competitive programs in the West. Their all-ages events bring a new and exciting option to Culver City’s nightlife that is both sport and entertainment rolled into one.SHEILA SCORNED is a short grindhouse film written and to be directed by Vice Media producer Mara Tasker. Created as a cheeky revenge fantasy in response to headlines of violence against women in Egypt and , the team behind the film is committed to making a film that engages in the dialogue about redefining the portrayal of women in front of the camera and the roles of women behind it. SHEILA SCORNED is currently crowdfunding to raise the budget for the film through April 2nd on SEED&SPARK, a next generation crowdfunding platform where filmmakers can crowdfund, distribute, and interact with their audience and the broader independent film community.
The event will take place at the Culver City Veterans Auditorium at 4117 Overland Ave, 90230. The first match begins at 5:30PM, with the ACDG Rocket Queens facing off against Shasta Roller Derby, followed by the 8:30PM match between ACDG Shore Shots and the San Diego Derby Dolls.
