The pitch for haunter had to have been something like this: I have an idea it’s Groundhogs Day meets the Others.
Abigail Breslin stars as Lisa a deceased teenager who happens to be stuck in a loop every morning her little brother wakes her up on a Wilkie talkie, her mother asks her to do some laundry before she eats Mac and Cheese and meatloaf. Her father works on the family car in the garage all day and they watch “Murder She Wrote” at night. Each one is stuck in a loop not realizing they are dead except Lisa who is able to connect to the living in the home by touching remnants of victims left in the house. Its up,to Lisa to free her family from the loop and put an end to the murderer who is possessing the living residents in the home.
An interesting premise with enough mystery to keep you engrossed, Watching Lisa relieve each day with subtle differences as she tries to find out what happened is engrossing. For me Henriksen light Stephen Mchattie as the pale man is a bit on the weak side for a villain, he is not particularly interesting nor menacing. More importantly there isn’t enough info or back story to make him scary. He is creepy yest there isn’t enough expounded on why he is so possessive of his house or why he killed all the families.
The mystery aspect works and the atmosphere is solid just don’t expect a lot of scares.
