Sizzling thriller #EM3 (Eenie Meenie Miney Moe), chronicling the tense journey of a drug dealer, is now on Redbox.
It is Beach, but it may well be LA, Chicago, , , anyone’s backyard, where hustlers play and the game has no rules.
Featuring electrifying performances by the likes of Andres Dominguez, Hangover Part 3′s Oscar Torre and International Music Artist Ky-Mani Marley, #EM3is a sexy, thrilling, and hip drama that serves as a reminder that every choice has its rewards and consequences.
When Raul (Dominguez), Miami tow truck driver with a secret car thief habit, builds a network to fence his stolen goods, his criminal franchise prospers. But, when he and his new neighbor Nikki (Belkys Galvez) spark a spur of the moment relationship, it sets off a deeper affection that begins to dismantle Raul’s finely tuned conspiracy ring. Raul on his quest for a “High Score” makes an important choice that has an unexpected outcome with never imagined consequences affecting everyone around him including the only love of his life.
Called “wilder and crazier than anything you might have imagined” by the Miami Herald, #EM3 combines a sizzling, sweat-inducing story that plays to the beat of some of today’s hottest artists, including Thirstin Howl the 3rd, Otto Von Schirach, !Mayday! and Miami Beat Wave.
We spoke to director Jokes Yanes about the movie.
Wow. Is this really what Miami’s like?
Yes, if you fall into the wrong circle, I mean this isn’t the end all be all story of Miami. Theres tons of stories that Miami is going to be telling for years to come that will explore the wider gamut of Miami life. (I have a few ranging in subject matter coming soon) The main thing that is true Miami to the core more so than most movies is the demographic breakdown and the twang and vernacular the characters all use, that’s what is all true and authentic although everything that happens in #em3 I have personally seen happen.
How much research went into the making of the movie?
The whole story was inspired by the real life stuff that was happening around me through out the years of living in Miami. All of these characters I’ve known in real life in one iteration or another.
I see some similarities with Scarface. Was that an influence?
I think its a big influence in a lot of thinking that goes on in Miami in certain circles, there’s this macho bravado that some associate with being like scarface, in a lot of ways I am also satirizing that kind of thinking because so many people that get involved in criminal life just think cause they sold a little drugs or have some kind of hustle that is working for them that they are on their way to buy tigers for the front yard. The biggest influence for me on this film was real life events and tragedies that shook something inside me and also just showing how flexible people’s morals are out here sometimes.
How did you decide upon your cast?
We had some talent that we already had in mind that we know we could get to, but the main thing i was looking for was actors that not only could act but had that accent and could execute the miami slang that I never see any movies. We had to cast fairly quickly so most of the cast came from friends and people we already knew with a few notable exceptions that blew our socks off in the auditions.
How has the film been received?
the film has been receive fairly well, doing amazing in the rentals on redbox and it has been opening a bunch of doors for future projects. That’s all i could really ask for and I hope the word keeps spreading and that more people that know the world I am addressing in the film will get the message of it and that it will be always be some kind of cult mile marker in Miami cinema history.
I hear it’s already doing well on Redbox., congrats!
thank you! I appreciate that.
Would you consider a sequel to #EM3? Possibly following one of the other characters, even?
We joked about doing a sequel with Vlad, mainly because theres a short film prequel called Vladimir’s Vodka that we did a year and half prior to #em3. We joked about Vlad waking up in a prison infirmary with a half a wooden hand like Nicholas Cage in “Moonstruck”, suddenly becoming a jailhouse legend because of his dead uncles mob ties. We even called it “Catch a Tiger by it’s Toe”. It was on going inside joke on set for awhile hopefully #em3 will gain that much traction fans will demand it. Seriously thought, Me and J.bishop have so many more scripts and stories we are ready to tell and I’m not big on doing sequels, so more than likely there will not be one but if the success gets big enough, you never know.
