Slamdance Studios Begins Limited US Theatrical Release for Critically Acclaimed Documentary “Bible Quiz” Beginning Spring 2014 Adding New Major Markets to “Slamdance On The Road”
(PARK CITY, UT – January 23, 2014) – Today, Slamdance Studios, the rapidly expanding distribution arm of the Slamdance Film Festival, announced its acquisition of the 2013 Slamdance Film Festival Grand Jury winner “Bible Quiz“. Slamdance Studios will partner with Virgil Films for all U.S. and Canadian VOD & DVD distribution rights.  “Bible Quiz”, directed by Nicole Teeny, toured the US in 2013 as part of Slamdance’s wildly successful On The Road series. Beginning in March of 2014, Slamdance Studios in partnership with Virgil Films will begin the limited US theatrical release in New York and Los Angeles, and will play across the country in cooperation with Alamo Drafthouse theaters in Houston, Kalamazoo, Lubbock, and Austin. Slamdance Studios will also partner with Virgil Films & Entertainment on the VOD and DVD release. The deal was brokered by Steven Beer for “Bible Quiz” and Peter Baxter for Slamdance Studios.

“Bible Quiz” follows seventeen-year-old Mikayla as she memorizes thousands of Bible verses on her quest to win the National Bible Quiz Championship and the heart of JP, her quiz team captain. This John Hughes-eque documentary explores coming of age in the midst of faith, doubt, fierce competition, and teen love.

Celebrating its 20th Anniversary, this year’s Slamdance slate consisted of 93 films, including the premiere of the DIY short documentary, which follows the historical development of the Do-It- Yourself indie film movement, as well as a number of thought-provoking films by a variety of acclaimed and visionary filmmakers from all over the world.
The 2014 Slamdance Film Festival took place from January 17th – 23rd, 2014, in Park City, Utah at the Treasure Mountain Inn, located at 255 Main Street, Park City, UT 84060.

The organization supports its alumni beyond the festival, by increasing exhibition opportunities through international and domestic On The Road events and developing commercial distribution through Slamdance Studios. 2013 VOD releases included Daniel Martinico’s OK, Good, Rudd Simmons’ The First Season, Monteith McCollum’s Hybrid, and Eleanor Burke and Ron Eyal’s Stranger Things. Slamdance’s 2013 On The Road program traveled to Austin, Detroit, Los Angeles and New York, further supporting award-winning feature films such as Nicole Teeny’s Bible Quiz, Matt Johnson’s The Dirties and James E. Duff’s Hank and Asha, as well as a selection of local short filmmakers.
