Tom Hanks and Hitcents Release Hanx Writer App for iPad, Only Available on App Store
Thanks to and the fine folks over at Hitcents you don’t have to grow a beard  or sport skinny jeans to be able to connect and romanticize with an old school typewriter. Hanx Writer brings all of the greatness with none of the hipster douchiness. I have given the app a thorough once over and can immediately say that I am impressed. While some people may not get the need for an app that simulates the sound and keys of  vintage typewriters, I believe they are the same people that didn’t initially get the concept of the hipstamatic app and its use of vintage filters, you cant find a phone app now without filters.  Having learned to type on an actual typewriter I can attest to the fact that there is something about the weight of the keys and the sound of keys striking paper that releases inspiration and creativity. Now if only Hanks and Hitcents can find a way to include the intoxication aroma of ribbon ink I would be all set.

Tom Hanks and Hitcents Release Hanx Writer App for iPad, Only Available on App Store

(August 14, 2014) – Actor Tom Hanks and award-winning mobile app and game development studio, Hitcents, have partnered on a new app for iPad, Hanx Writer, that recreates the experience of a manual typewriter, but with the ease and speed of an iPad. Launching today, Hanx Writer App for iPad is available for free, only available on the App Store or at
AppStore.com/HanxWriter.
Developed in close collaboration with Tom Hanks, the Hanx Writer App reflects the look, feel, and sound of old-fashioned word-processing, while embracing a few new-fashioned luxuries (like the DELETE key!).

“No longer must you surrender modern luxuries, like the DELETE key” says Hanks.  “With Hanx Writer, you’ll hear the rhythm of your work with SHOOK SHOOK or FITT-FITT.”

“It was Tom’s energy and enthusiasm that made an impression on me. He was bold, personable, and when he spoke about the Hanx Writer he was having fun. I wanted to capture that spirit with this app. Nostalgic…yes! But also a tool that composes well and is enjoyable to use more than once,” said Stuart Westphal, VP of Games and Interactive at Hitcents.

The Hanx Writer App comes with wireless keyboard support and each document can be emailed, printed, and shared. Invitations, letters, and notes can be personalized with the complimentary Hanx Prime Select typewriter and just like Tom, a user can expand their Hanx Writer collection via in-app purchases with the bold Hanx 707 and the luxurious Hanx Golden Touch typewriter. This extended collection comes with many additional features, including the ability to change your font color, add pictures to your title pages, and create multiple documents.

Hitcents is best known for their creative mobile game Draw a Stickman: EPIC, which picked up multiple Webby Awards in 2013, and for their work on Sony’s  Scrapbook app. “Our company has always been focused on quality development and innovative concepts. Now with the launch of the Hanx Writer, Tom Hanks and Hitcents are ushering in a new era of creative passion projects in the mobile space, bringing exciting and freshly entertaining concepts from Hollywood’s most respected talent,” said Clinton Mills, Co-founder and CEO at Hitcents.

CAA brokered the deal on behalf of its client Tom Hanks. For more information on Hanx Writer that was built using Xamarin, please visit
