VICE’S FISHING WITHOUT NETS WINS SUNDANCE AWARD FOR BEST U.S. DRAMA DIRECTOR
Cutter Hodierne Awarded Top Sundance Honour for His Feature Directorial Debut
NEW YORK, NY (27th January, 2014) – VICE Films today congratulates director Cutter Hodierne on his award for best U.S. drama directing for Fishing Without Nets at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival.
Fishing Without Nets is the first scripted feature film from VICE Films and marks Hodierne’s first feature directing credit.
Shot in East Africa using Kenyan actors of Somalia descent, Fishing Without Nets tells the mesmerizing and sobering story of a young struggling Somali fisherman lured into the world of piracy in order to support the family he loves. Telling a story of hope and survival, the film explores a moral grey area of piracy – presenting the other side of a story traditionally ignored. The short film of the same name won the Jury Prize in Short Filmmaking at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival.
VICE’s Co-Founder and CEO Shane Smith and Chief Creative Officer Eddy Moretti both served as executive producers on the film.
