“MY AMITYVILLE HORROR” – DO YOU BELIEVE DANNY LUTZ?

My Amityville Horror
Starring: Daniel Lutz, Laura DiDio
Director: Eric Walter

This long overdue documentary focuses on the events of ocean lane through the eyes of Danny Lutz the son of George and Kathleen Lutz whose story inspired a bestselling novel and multiple film versions. After 35 years Danny provides insight into what happened at the home as well as what has happened with him since he left the famous residence.

Danny has some daddy issues to say he hates George Lutz would be an understatement, disgusted by his step dad’s willingness to embrace the events at Amityville while Danny just wants to forget the past. The conviction that Danny employs to recount the events that took place leave you with zero doubt that these things happened. It’s only later in the interview process that you begin to have your doubts and question whether these events are part of Danny’s imagination, if he was influenced to believe they were real.

I was on board with Danny until he starts talking about George Lutz telekinesis powers, Georges ability to move objects with the power of his mind. At one point Danny is asked if he would subject himself to a polygraph test, which causes him to snap at this point its became crystal clear that while Danny says he doesn’t want to be defined by his experience at Amityville, He seems to let enough people know to garner just the right amount of attention that he is looking for. It’s been 35 years and having struck out to live life on his own in his teens he has had ample time to reinvent himself and no longer be the little boy in the haunted house. Take that away and he is just a bald little UPS driver who can play the guitar, who would be interested in that.
