DAVID LYNCH’S SON FILMMAKER AUSTIN LYNCH LAUNCHES KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN FOR “GRAY HOUSE”

Award-Winning Director Combines Documentary and Narrative Footage
To Explore Ideas about Class, Identity, Consumerism and Progress

LOS ANGELES — (AUGUST 21, 2013) — Award-winning filmmaker Austin Lynch announced today that he is launching a Kickstarter campaign to finance his latest movie project, GRAY HOUSE.
The film is an exploration of domestic space that frames a larger conversation about class, identity, consumerism and progress. Equal parts observation and fabrication, GRAY HOUSE interweaves documentary and narrative footage into a film structure that blurs the lines between fiction and reality.
To do this, Lynch investigates five politically- and socially-charged locations where he either conducts a series of interviews with the people living there or stages scripted dramas in the space. GRAY HOUSE features: a bait fisherman on the Texas coast, oil worker camps in North Dakota, a couple living on a commune, inmates at a women’s prison in rural Virginia, and a modern home in Southern California.
Lynch explains: “The idea for Gray House began with my interest in these locations. As the project evolved I decided to approach each space in a unique way and to create a film that incorporated both documentary and narrative footage. The film is about the affects of architecture on its inhabitants and the ways that our understanding of reality can be complicated by its representation.”

Producers for GRAY HOUSE include: Forever Pictures, a UK-based production company, and Sabrina Sutherland, a Hollywood veteran whose feature film credits include Mary Sweeny’s Baraboo, David Lynch’s Lost Highway and Wim Wenders’ The End of Violence.
The film’s scripted sequences star Aurore Clemente (Paris, Texas), fashion designer Jeremy Scott, Nathaniel Brown (Enter the Void) and painter Dianna Molzan. The music featured in GRAY HOUSE was composed by Cameron Reed, who has recorded two experimental electronic albums on Warp Records under the pseudonym Babe Rainbow.
Previously, Lynch collaborated with filmmaker Jason S. and his father, director David Lynch, on the Webby Award-winning series Interview Project and the Lovie Award-winning Interview Project Germany. Austin Lynch also directed Making The New World, a 10-part documentary chronicling the production of Terrence Malick’s The New World, and Making There Will Be Blood, a film about the making of Paul Thomas Anderson’s There Will Be Blood.
