Four area students who dabble in stolen goods acquired by credit card fraud get in over their head when they accidently incur a debt to a local gangster. With the help of a new recruit they head to with the sole purpose of committing higher level fraud on some big ticket cards. Things go from bad to worse forcing them into a situation where they graduate from stealing plastic to stealing high end Jewelry.
Purported to be based on a true story this mildly enjoyable crime caper requires a high level of suspension of disbelief. Sam (Ed Seelers) along with his mate Fordy (“We’re The Millers” Will Poulter) are partners in a credit card fraud ring with Yatesey (Game of Thrones star Alfie Allen) and Rafa (Sebastian De Souza) who are both a touch on the bitter side for being recruited with promises by Sam to make their financial dreams come true, in a terrible London economy. The reasoning behind their bitterness is a leap unto itself. When Yatesey and Rafa make a mistake they are all on the hook to local gangster Marcel (Thomas Ketschmann) for millions. Coincidentally the girl that Sam has interest in Frankie (Emma Rigby) just happens to be interning at a credit card company and has been granted clearance to sensitive information on high level accounts, just the type of information that they need to get themselves out of this sour pickle.
When Yatesey screws things up…again, Rafa has an idea to impersonate royalty to get their hands on 20 million in Jewels. The fact that these low level clowns can quickly graduate to this elaborate impersonation scheme is ludicrous. As well as the entire dynamic of Yatesey who is the sole reason they are in the mess in the first place. I don’t buy for a second that these four unlikeables could go full Danny Ocean in such a short period of time. Even if they could, they lack the charm or sophistication to make you want to root for them to pull it off. There is nothing honorable about what they are doing nor is there really a villain that you want them to pull a fast one on. It’s an elaborate scheme that you are never invested in enough to make sure they pull it off.
