The Counselor Overview
Ridley Scott is coming back with his new chilling thriller movie called The Counsellor. Scott is a legendary film maker, the owner of prestigious Cannes, Saturn and Emmy awards, he is well known for his movies and now he presents the new vision of the thriller genre. His movie is full of famous Hollywood actors and actresses such as Michael Fassbender, Cameron Diaz, Brad Pitt, Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem. If you like movies with deep conversations and perfect actors play then this thriller is the right choice. The thriller has everything what its genre needs to have: love and sex scenes, criminal figures and their longing for easy money, deaths of some significant characters, action scenes, and deadly sins such as betrayal, greed, lust and envy.
The plot consists of several separate scenes which make the whole and understandable picture at the end of the story. Michael Fassbender plays a successful and famous lawyer called Counsellor and he is not so white and fluffy as it may seem. He is a greedy person and doesn’t want to waste the chance to get some fast money, even if the risk will take everything away from him. He is in long-term relationship with his girlfriend Laura, played by Penelope Cruz. He visits Amsterdam to buy his girlfriend expensive engagement ring. Counselor gets involved into the drug trafficking world with the help of his friend Reiner, not the last persons in drug business. Reiner’s character is played by Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz’s real-life husband. Counselor gets some advice about the future drug deal from Westray, played by Brad Pitt, but he warns Counselor to not get into this dangerous mess or he may end up in a big trouble. Counsellor makes his decision and agrees to transport a truck full of cocaine from Mexico to the United States. But everything goes wrong when Reiner’s girlfriend Malkina, played by Cameron Diaz, gets on the Counselor’s way. The truck with millions worth of drugs is gone, Laura has been kidnapped and several Counselor’s partners are now dead.
This movie is full of long and catching conversations, of extreme violence and death scenes, it shows tender relationship between Counsellor and Laura and uncontrolled lust of Reiner and Malkina. Modern cars, luxurious mansions, amazing landscapes, fashionable outfits and relationship between the all characters complete the thrilling storyline perfectly.
This Ridley Scott’s movie is must-seen. All actors are presented in new and unusual appearance and the story will keep you in tension starting from the beginning. movie teaches that every person is individual and makes its own decision. And there always are consequences, will it be bad or good – it is only you to decide. Ridley Scott dedicated this thriller to the loving memory of his younger brother Tony Scott.
